What is this site?

This site shows live aircraft movements over the Netherlands together with official noise contours around Dutch airports. It is an independent, non-commercial project. Coverage is currently limited to the Netherlands.

Measurements, not causes

This site shows measurements: what is in the air and where the noise contours are. No medical claims and no statements about causes unless an official study is cited. Noise contours are annual averages of the sound load — not live noise.

Data sources

All data comes from public sources with open licences. See the complete list of sources, dates and licences on the <1>sources page</1>.

Privacy

This site counts page views with a minimal, self-hosted counter on our own server: how many visits, when, and from which country — nothing else. Your IP address is processed in memory on our own server only (on the internal route to the counter) to derive that country and unique visits; it is never stored or logged, there are no cookies and no event tracking. Referring sites are counted only as hourly totals — our app never sends a referrer itself, so pages you navigate to within the site are never recorded as “referred by vliegvuil.nl” — and screen size, region and language are not collected. The aggregated statistics (hourly counts of pages, referrers, countries and browsers — no individual visitors) are kept without a set expiry for now; if a retention period is ever introduced, this page will say so. No access logs are kept, and your IP address is not forwarded to the aircraft data provider. The site asks your browser only for the app itself, the basemap, the aircraft data and the page-view count — all from vliegvuil.nl itself, no third party is contacted. The only thing stored locally is your unit preference (in your own browser, never sent).
